Na Hang, a district in Tuyen Quang Province, is home to a heritage-rich culture with many ethnic communities living together. The traditional cultural values of these communities play an essential role in the district’s identity and are considered an important resource to drive socio-economic development.

The district is home to 30 historical sites, archaeological sites, and scenic areas, including 4 sites that have been officially recognized at the provincial level. Notably, Na Hang is also home to the Na Hang-Lam Binh Special National Scenic Area, which was designated as a Special National Heritage Site by the Prime Minister.

In addition to tangible cultural heritage, Na Hang places great emphasis on preserving intangible cultural practices within local communities. The district has made significant efforts to study, collect, and inventory cultural heritage, as well as to create documentation for the distinctive cultural legacies of its ethnic minorities. Over recent years, the district has successfully restored several traditional festivals, including the Lồng Tông Festival in Na Hang Town, the Lồng Tông Festival in Da Vi and Yen Hoa communes of the Tay ethnic group, the Rice pounding Festival in Con Lon commune, and the Fish Catching Festival in Nang Kha commune. Additionally, the district has maintained traditional practices such as weaving brocade and preserving cultural spaces, like the ancient villages of the Tay people.

To promote the preservation of these cultural values, many communes and towns in Na Hang have established cultural clubs focused on safeguarding ethnic traditions. Currently, the district boasts 12 community-based art teams, 145 grassroots cultural groups, 10 Then singing clubs, and 3 Pao Dung singing clubs. These groups regularly recruit new members, particularly younger generations, to teach and preserve the traditional cultural expressions of the ethnic communities. Mr. Hoang Lien Son, Head of the Then Singing Club in Ban Nhung village, Nang Kha commune, said that his club has over 50 members, including 12 young people aged 9 to 15. He regularly organizes free classes to teach Then singing and playing the Tính lute to local residents.

In recent years, Na Hang has placed a strong emphasis on preserving and promoting the ethnic cultural identity in tandem with tourism development. The district is now home to several community-based tourism sites, where visitors can experience the natural beauty, daily life, and cultural practices of local ethnic groups. Notable tourism destinations include the community tourism sites at Na Kha village in Nang Kha commune, Ban Bung village in Thanh Tuong commune, and Khau Trang village in Hong Thai commune.

Annually, the district welcomes over 200,000 visitors. In the coming time, Na Hang aims to further develop its tourism industry with a focus on creating unique, cultural tourism products and services that reflect the district’s distinct local identity while also preserving its rich cultural heritage.

By combining cultural preservation with sustainable tourism, Na Hang is positioning itself as a model for other regions in Viet Nam, showing how traditional values can be leveraged to foster both cultural and economic growth.
